What You Need to Know About Invisalign When you think of orthodontics, you probably think of braces. You have seen them on other people. Small box-like metal components called brackets. Wires and rubbers. They look absolutely horrifying and ridiculous. They have the added bonus of being very uncomfortable. Most people actively avoid braces even when they know getting them is their only hope of getting the chompers they want. The introduction of options like ceramic and s Self-ligating braces did not really aide their reputation. The very thought of having things glued onto your teeth is unpleasant. The reasons for braces include: ●Misalignment or malocclusion issue such as crooked or crowded teeth ●Twisted or rotated teeth ●Gaps ●Crossbites ●Overbites ●Deep bites It almost seems like there is no way not to end up in braces. What do they always say in infomercials? “There has got to be a better way!” Well, now there is Invisalign. When Invisalign was introduced, the discouraging woes of patients met some resolution. It was something new and it was amazing; but for you to understand how it works, here is a discussion of its pros and cons. Pros ●They are invisible- This is the most popular feature. There is no metal appearance due to the aligners or trays. These are clear and also a fit snuggly making it not noticeable. For people who regard braces as something for kids and do not want to deal with the appearance at their age, career, or social status. ●It is a DIY treatment- The nature of the treatment lends to people making the decision to undergo treatment on their own. As long as they follow the instructions, patients may go through the entire treatment themselves. For patients who are busy and unavailable for regular appointments, this is a game changer. ●It is more comfortable- You get to straighten your teeth unobtrusively. No painful brackets, wires or rubbers. You can take them out to eat or brush. There is a little discomfort with the pressure of the trays, but you will not have to invest in wax strips to prevent the development of sores. You may also continue with all physical activities - even contact sports- which is a something you cannot do with braces
Cons ●It is costly- This is a sophisticated and convenient technology so naturally, it will cost more. You cannot put a price tag on not having to deal with braces though. Well, they can. ●It cannot fix as much as braces- Invisalign get it done most of the time. Cases that require manual or surgical manipulation may not be good candidates. The process can be done alone, but a dental professional should be consulted at some point. ●It is technique-sensitive- The trays that do the aligning come with a treatment plan and instructions that both patients and dentists have to follow to the letter. Misuse of one aligner may nullify the rest of the aligners. For example, a patient fails to wear a tray and his teeth alter from normal shifting that teeth do. This could mean the rest of the trays will no longer fit. If you are interested in straightening your smile, visit your dentist. Braces are no longer the only option.
