  4. How to Help Your Child Help Themselves! • Studying is a way for your child to better remember the material taught in school. • The best way for a child to study is by actively doing something! • If their body is moving in some way, their brain is actively moving too! • They can create something, say something, or a combination of the two! • You can have them teach the tested material to you, their pet, their siblings, or even their friends!

  5. Creating Study Materials Your child can make several types of materials at home to study with that are much more exciting than just reading! Use active learning strategies—This is much more effective! • Make a crossword puzzle • Flashcards for vocabulary or concepts • Write a study guide for a friend • Make up your own quiz • Play Pictionary with vocabulary • Draw and explain charts and diagrams The creation of the materials is just as important as the process of reviewing it!

  6. Useful Practice Websites https://quizlet.com/ What is Quizlet and how can I use it? Anyone can use Quizlet to study and learn content created by other users or to create your own custom study sets. You can also share sets with friends, classmates, or your students. Getting started on Quizlet • The best way to get started on Quizlet as a student is to search for sets made by other Quizlet users. • Students and teachers create new study sets all the time, so it's quite likely that you'll be able to find what you're looking for. • To find study sets, select the magnifying glass icon at the top of any page on Quizlet. Then, type in your subject or the name of the exam you're studying for and press ‘Enter’ to see a list of results.

  15. Helpful Study Tips • Plan study time in the daily schedule and keep it at the same time each day when possible • Start with the hardest subject first. • Find a quiet spot in the house free of distractions. • UNPLUG! Turn off the access to social media for a while--set limits.

  16. More study tips...STAY calm! Don’t CRAM!- Practice a bit at a time over several days. • Have them write all assignments in a planner and check the planner. • Help your child break big projects into smaller ones. • A big research project will seem less overwhelming and will be less likely to be left until the last minute if it’s done in manageable chunks, each with its own deadline.

  17. To learn a new routine, a child must PRACTICE! It takes a person 1 month to learn a new habit! Good study habits will help your student be a Successful Student!!
