  2. Learning OUTCOMES • After taking this course students will be able to • LEARN – the basics of Hydrology and Water Resources in a Watershed setup • USE – some popular Hydrologic and Hydraulic Models • APPLY – this knowledge in developing their class projects

  3. Introduction of the Course • Course Schedule Class: • Day: Every Thursday • Time: 09:00 AM – 12:00 PM • Office Hours • Every Tuesday 10 AM – 11 AM

  4. Course Outline • Text Book – Course Material will be taken from Several books Main Books: • Hydrology by Das and Saikia • Hydrology and Flood Plain Analysis by Philip B. Bedient (4th Edition) • Hydrology and the Management of Watersheds (3rd Edition. 2003) by Brooks • Water Resources Engineering 2nd Edition by Linsley and Franzini • Hydrology: H. M. Ragunath Status

  5. Reference Material • Reading material will be provided in class if required • Name of reference books and other reference material will be provided time to time

  6. Theory • Introduction to Hydrology and Water Resources • Precipitation: Types, Measurements, Analyses • Hydrologic Losses: Infiltration, Evaporation, Evapotranspiration • Watershed Management: Watershed characteristics, rainfall-runoff response, hydrograph analysis, runoff estimation (runoff models), water budget • Floods:frequency analysis, flood routing, flood forecasting, flood management • Stream Flow Measurement/Monitoring: flow measuring techniques and devices, open channel hydraulics • Groundwater: Hydrology and hydraulics

  8. Term Project • Individual (or group of two) projects will be assigned to students based on themes covered in the course • Project paper due at the day of the presentation

  9. Homework/Project/Quiz/Exams • Homework: Students will be required to do homework and submit on the date mentioned on homework • Workshop Assignments: Each student will be assigned an exercise after each lab topic covered that may be converted into the term project • Quiz: Several in class Quiz (both surprise and informed) • Midterm Exam: Approximately covering 1/2 of the course • Project Presentation: One week before Final Exam • Final Exam: Comprehensive coverage of the course during the last week of the semester • Lab Final Exam
