  2. Legal Admissions Tests Timeline 1st Aug: LNAT registration opens 1st Sept: First date to sit LNAT 20th Jan: Last date to sit LNAT You must submit your UCAS application by 15th January and sit your LNAT before 20th January otherwise you will be considered a ‘late applicant’.

  4. Format of LNAT 2 Sections Verbal Reasoning Tests 95 minutes LNAT Essay 40 minutes

  5. Verbal Reasoning • 12 argumentative essays with 42 multiple choice questions • 3 or 4 answers per question • Measures the skills that are at the heart of legal education

  6. LNAT Essay • Have to produce a reasoned and substantiated argument justifying your response to a question chosen from a list of 3 possibilities • Essay should demonstrate ability to economically argue to a conclusion with a good command of the English language • Best preparation is to read a decent newspaper and some well written novels! • Type essay into computer • 500-600 words • No spellcheck function

How the LNAT is scored Verbal reasoning score is out of 42 – marked by Pearson VUE Universities are reluctant to say how much emphasis they place on the LNAT or say how they weight the scores against Higher results. They differ greatly. Essays are not marked by Pearson VUE, they are passed directly to Admissions Tutors to read. These are used in different ways.
