  3. Ephesians 1:15-23 – Paul’s Prayer for the Ephesians • Blessed with their witness of strong faith in Jesus and love for God’s people • Revelation 2:4 I have this complaint against you – you don’t love me or each other as you did at first • Constant prayer for revelation

  4. I. Revelation of God • Spiritual wisdom and insight that you might grow in your knowledge of God • Knowledge of God’s character • Knowledge of God’s nature • Ephesians 5:1 – be imitators of God in everything you do

  5. Jesus – Hebrews 1:3 The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, (NASB – the exact representation of his nature) • Philippians 3:10 AMPLIFIED – For my determined purpose is that I may know Him, [that I may progressively become more intimately acquainted with the wonders of His person more strongly and more clearly]… • Know God – solid foundation for storms

  6. II. Revelation of Confident Hope • Hearts flooded with light so you may understand the confident hope he has give to those he called

  7. Flooded with light – (Greek Photizo) - is, to shine or (transitively) to brighten up (literally or figuratively):—enlighten, illuminate, (bring to, give) light, make to see.

  8. NASB – that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened • The lens of your heart would be wide open, that your heart would be exposed to the glorious flooding light of the image of the Father’s calling on your life • 2 Corinthians 4:18 – fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen • A.W. Towzer – organs by which we perceive the spiritual realm just like natural realm

  9. (Psalms 119:130) "The unfolding of Thy words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple."

  10. Ephesians 1:18 (MESSAGE) your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for Christians,

Revelation of God’s Power • Understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him • Same power that raised Christ from the dead • Same power that raised Christ to the position of utmost authority • Ephesians 3:20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 

  12. 2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.

  13. Needed strength: • For completion of what he is calling you to do – made complete with all the fullness and life and power that comes from God (Eph. 3:19) • Word of the Lord – January 4, “…Let my strength infuse you. Let my strength strengthen you to do the works that I am calling you to…”

  14. For standing strong against the strategies of the devil • For employing divinely powerful weapons for destroying strongholds • For firm faith in circumstantial storms

  15. Jesus – far above any ruler or authority • Made head of the church • For the benefit of the church • The church is made full and complete by Christ • The church is his body – the authoritative extension of Jesus, with full power to act on his behalf in this age • Expressing his image (Photizo) • Ambassadors for the kingdom of God

  16. Reflection Time • What does it mean to have a spirit of wisdom and insight? • How should an understanding of the position of the resurrected Christ affect a believer’s everyday life? • What is the role of the church today and how can it fulfill its role? • Next week – Ephesians 2:1-10
