HISTORY • Winter of 2011 - our Science and Health Departments meet with Suzanne D’Anna, Coordinator for the UMDNJ Health Science Career Program for high school programs. • Spring of 2011 – our Board adopts this program • We introduce 2 courses in the UMDNJ Dual Enrollment Program • - Dynamics of Health Care in Society – (Prerequisite) - honors semester course – 3 credits • - Anatomy & Physiology I & II - year long honors course of study - 4 credits for each semester
Program Progression • Dynamics of Health Care is offered to : • 10th, 11th, and 12th graders • Must be passed with a minimum grade of 74 to take the other courses for college credit • It is possible to take classes simultaneously during the first year until a pool of students is available • The second year we offered Honors Medical Terminology – Semester course - 3 credits
PROGRESSION (cont.) • Third year – added Honors Emergency & Clinical Care – semester course – 2 credits • We have grown to three sections of Dynamics • 1 full year section of Honors A & P • 1 section of Honors Medical Terminology on alternating years • 1 section of Honors Emergency & Clinical Care • Total College Credits that can be earned: • 16 credits
QUALIFICATIONS High School Wellness Teacher • - Ten years classroom experience • - Master Degree • - Instructor Certification for ARC or AHA or • - ATC certification (optional) • High School Science Teacher • - Ten years classroom experience • - Masters Degree
RUTGERS GRADING SYSTEM • Honors Anatomy & Physiology – 1 & 2 – - 50% Rutgers SHRP Standardized Exam + 50% high school grade = Rutgers SHRP grade listed on transcript • Honors Dynamics of Health Care in Society - 100% of Rutgers, SHRP standardized exam = grade on transcript • Honors Medical Terminology - 75% Rutgers, SHRP standardized exam + 25% high school grade =Rutgers grade listed on transcript
GRADING (cont.) • Honors Emergency & Clinical Care - There is no Rutgers exam –Instructor submits grade based on class work and exam from either American Red Cross or American Heart Association SCALE
EXAMS • Dates are set early in the fall and spring semester for exams at Scotch Plains Campus • Cost - $25.00 / exam – payment due on date of the exam • Bus students to campus • You do not get copies of the exams – you can briefly review them during the October & January Faculty meetings – you teach from the textbooks which are required • Dynamics = $95.00/book • Med Term - $50.00/book • A & P = $100.00 + /book
