Why lafayette? • Long-term community-to-community partnership: w • Need: • PlanLafayette, released this past Wednesday, calls for 18 new homes built in two years • Solidarity after natural disasters • NYC is still rebuilding after Sandy. Lafayette absorbed thousands of refugees after Katrina. If we can learn and serve in a community dealing with similar issues, we are better prepared to understand and fulfill their needs, and to come back and help our own city. • Impact: Habitat is part of the Lafayette parish’s own plan for a better future. • Engagement: Columbia HFH has the ideas,resources, and now the sustained relationship to help Lafayette’s volunteer network expand. And they want us back!

  3. what we do Saturday arrival and Sunday road trip to New Orleans, visit Katrina Memorial Park Monday-Friday: builds! • We work on 3 NEW single-family homes and may arrive at any stage of construction: The Taylors, the Harrises, the Broussards • Tasks may include foundation work, framing, drywall, painting, caulking • Field trip to Acadian culture village • Weekday afternoons: promotion of Lafayette Habitat on UL campus • Thursday Habitat-sponsored Creole dinner with future homeowners • Friday meeting with University of Lafayette AmeriCorps
