Launch of first five clusters Outstanding Past Bright Future • ESF funds (Euro 10 million) to enable: • Biotechnology/Bioinformatics Research Group • E-Games Design and Production Group • Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency Group • Electronic Control Systems Group • Marine and Environmental Sciences Group • Each group will comprise of five world-class post-doctoral fellows working with a Malta and Industry focus (2011-2013) • Will also utilise the laboratories and equipment which are currently being procured
Upgrade of Facilities Outstanding Past Bright Future ERDF projects underway: Plus circa Euro 600K for new systems and training of Library staff from ESF Funds
Upgrade of Facilities Outstanding Past Bright Future ERDF projects in the pipeline:
Upgrading Sites • New buildings to house – ERDF funds targeted: • The Faculty of Education; and • The Faculty of the Built Environment and the School Fine Arts and Design • Additional Floors on: • FEMA/Law – funded internally from revenue from MBA and other evening courses • Biomedical Sciences – ERDF or Government funding • CRUCIAL for post-doctoral research fellows Outstanding Past Bright Future
Upgrading Sites • Extend and upgrade Library: • We are going to seek €35million from ERDF • to upgrade the University library with on-line and physical books and journals to allow for postgraduate programmes and postdoctoral research; • to build an archive under the car-park adjacent to the Library to house our collections (MEPA permit in hand) • Sports Facilities; Canteen and Recreational Facilities; Residence • – preparing the groundwork for PPP Outstanding Past Bright Future
Upgrading other sites Outstanding Past Bright Future • Old University Building • Refurbishing for an International Graduate School • will host International Masters Programme • will host International Summer and Winter Schools • will host the International School of the Performing Arts • upgrading of Old University Theatre • will act as the seat of the Arvid Pardo Academy • Gozo Centre • Government farm in Gozo being offered as base for a Research School of Agriculture, Ecology, Agronomy
