Solomon Prays for Wisdom 1 Kings 3
We can pray to our Father at times when we are imperfect (1 Kings 3:1-3). • What we need most from God is something we can’t see or touch: understanding (3:5, 9). • We should always acknowledge God’s past blessings (3:6).
We must not be afraid to admit that we don’t know some things (1 Kings 3:7). • With God’s wisdom comes the ability to know good from evil (3:9). • With God’s wisdom comes the ability to lead others (3:8-9).
10It was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing & have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words.
Behold, I have given you a wise & discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you. 13I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches & honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days. 14 If you walk in My ways, keeping My statutes & commandments, as your father David walked, then I will prolong your days.”
Closing: • After you have prayed to God for wisdom, and later find that you have also received material blessings from Him, don’t forget to hold on to the humility of mind and trust you had in Him at the beginning.
