Short history • The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry was established in 21. 3. 1940 • In 1957 the Faculty was divided into two faculties: Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Agriculture, the second one with three different departments: Agronomy, Animal husbandry and Fruit and vine growing. • In 1978 the fourth department of Food technology was established • During the last war the Faculty of Agriculture was totally burned anddestroyed. • Faculty got a new building in a former military barrack in1996, working in difficult conditions.

  4. Organizational scheme of the Faculty of Agriculture Faculty of Agriculture has a Dean and three Vice Deans, as therepresentatives of the Faculty. Staff of the Faculty includes 9 full profesors, 7 associate professors, 15 assistant professors, 34 assistents and 38 others. SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES All activities are conducted through eight existing Institutes: • Department of soil science, agro chemistry and melioration; • Department of crop production; • Department of fruit and wine growing; • Department of plant protection; • Department of animal husbandry; • Department of food technology; • Department of agricultural machinery; • Department of agribusiness economics.

TEACHING PROCESS Teaching process (3+2+3) undergraduate (B.Sc.) study is conducted at: Department of Food Technology ; Department of General Agriculture is providing education in three sub-directions : general agriculture, plant production and animal husbandry; Department of agribusiness economics. In academic year 2005/06, there were total cca 700 students at the Faculty of Agriculture. At post-graduated (M.Sc.) level, there are following courses: • Economics of agriculture and food industry; • Sustainable land management; • Technology of plant production; • Technology of animal production • Control of foodstuff quality; • Field crop production; • Fruit growing; • Viticulture; • Animal nutrition; • Plant protection and phyto-medicine • Production of vegetables in greenhouses; • Production and use of flowers and ornamental plants; • Agriculture engineering and management

Research and other activities • Faculty is involved in international projects(1.TEMPUS-several projects: 2.“Updating academic research in area of agriculture and forestry in South East Europe”concerning animal breeding,GIS and graslands and forage quality, GIS -Norway; 3.“Development and utilization of molecular methods for maintaining of salmonide population biodiversity in Adriatic see”–Slovenia........ There are several projects in the course with Norway concering standardization of national chesseas: as salmonide in Neretva river; Global change........... • Faculty carried out also many different projects on the national level ( finnanced by international organizations or governmental bodies on the different level-Federation, Cantons....)
