  3. Introduction • Diabetic Retinopathy is a implication of diabetes and one of the leading cause of blindness in the World. • Hence Dr. AshwiniMisal, Eye Specialist in Aundh has taken initiative to aware people about Diabetic Retinopathy.

  5. Diabetic Retinopathy • The back of the eye is covered by membrane is called as retina. And that retina is highly sensitive to light. • It mainly converts any type of light which hits the eye into signal and it can be interpreted by the brain. This process leads to produce visual images and this is how eye sight functions in the human eye. • Diabetic retinopathy causes to damage the blood vessels within the retinal tissue, causing them to leak fluid and distort vision.

  6. There are two types of Diabetic Retinopathy (DR): • Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) • Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR)

  7. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR): • PDR is the most advanced stage of diabetic retinopathy and Due to PDR, formation of new & abnormal blood vessels in the retina takes place.

  8. Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR): • This is the mild form of DR (diabetic retinopathy) and it is usually symptomless or it doesn’t show any symptoms.

Fast facts on Diabetic Retinopathy • Diabetic retinopathy (DR) damages blood vessel in the retina that happens due to result of diabetes. • It is the main cause of blindness in the Population • Symptoms contain difficulty in seeing colors, blurred vision floaters, and even total loss of vision. • People suffering from diabetes should check their vision at least once annually to rule out DR. • There are retinal surgeries that can give relief from DR symptoms, but managing early symptoms and controlling diabetes are the most effective ways to prevent Diabetic Retinopathy.

  10. Symptoms • Diabetic retinopathy typically does not show any symptoms during the initial stages. • When the condition reaches to an advanced stage then symptoms become noticeable. • On occasion, a sudden and complete loss of vision is the only detectable symptom

Symptoms and signs of DR (diabetic retinopathy) may contain: • Blurred or foggy vision • The impairment of color vision • Transparent or floaters and dark strings and colorless spots that floats in the affected individual's field of vision • Presence of streaks or patches that leads to block the person's vision • Poor night vision • sudden and total loss of vision

  12. Diabetic Retinopathy mostly affects both eyes. • It is crucial to take care that the risk of vision loss is minimal. • By attending every eye examination scheduled by their doctor is the only way to prevent Diabetic Retinopathy for people who are suffering from diabetes
