  1. Q. What is a CSP… … and why should you enroll in one?

  2. A: It’s a learning community- otherwise known as a Coordinated Studies Program.

  3. Here are reasons to enroll - • CSPs are fun and a challenge. • They’re “out of the box” learning.

  4. There’s the usual package - • A stand-alone, follow-the-curriculum, one-instructor class.

  5. And then there’s a CSP! • Each unique course is created by a team of instructors who have a passion for the topic…

  6. Students get their academic load in one class – often with Fridays off. • Since the teaching team works with smaller groups, each student gets more attention and guidance.

  7. CSPs make for success! • On the average, 75-80% of students pass their classes and continue at SCCC. • Students in learning communities have a much higher success rate – averaging 97% over the past several academic years.

  8. Lifelong friendships start in CSPs • New students feel at home in no time. • Often there’s a potluck at the end of the quarter.

  9. Don’t let the 18- or 13-credits scare you… • A CSP makes better use of time. Instead of • 3 discrete classes • 3 research assignments, and • 3 separate papers, your energy is concentrated.

  10. Enrollment is easy - • Register for the item number listed in the schedule – one item number – one classroom – one team of instructors. After the quarter starts, you select the credits you need from the CSP menu. Grades on your transcript are credited to these 5- and 3-credit course equivalencies.

  11. A CSP is challenging – and fun! • Learners take part in writing seminars, workshops, group presentations, field trips – and use the internet. • Tools include music, video, guest speakers, lectures, debates, art, and more.
