Background Comprehensive mapping of the livelihoods, assets and resources is a fundamental principle in livelihood support in post-war situation No common approach in livelihood No concerted effort to consolidate data from statistical surveys and wealth of knowledge accumulated by partners Existing livelihood zones are too broad
Justification • FSLC goal: To achieve durable improvements in food security and livelihoods • Livelihood diversification • Increasing productivity • Building resilience to multiple and unpredictable shocks • Thorough but unified mapping of the risks and vulnerabilities and opportunities needed • NEAT initiative using a livelihood zoning approach has created a renewed demand for disaggregated data
Activities • Set up a Technical committee which would help to define tools, methods and oversee field activities • Generate the physiographic zone which is the basis of the current 8 livelihood zones. • Use of continuous raster data to define agricultural potential and resource constraints.
Activities • Incorporate existing information from secondary sources: national surveys, IGAD crop zoning map and other information from partners working in specific area • Ground truthing at county level and market surveys. • State and national level workshop.
Deliverables • State and national food security and livelihood report. • State-level and Juba level dissemination workshop. • Database with information on livelihood assets, opportunities and constraints. • Market reports
