  1. Search And Rescue By: Sheena Sands Nate Homitsky Trevor Patrie Becky Vereb An AIBO Story

  2. Injury • One day an AIBO decided to go out for a walk. While out the AIBO got lost and while trying to find it’s way back it got stuck under a rock slide

  3. The Search and Rescue Team • An elite team of Search and Rescue AIBOs were dispatched to find the injured AIBO when it did not return home at the end of the day

  4. Basic Project Description • 1 ‘Injured’ AIBO • Stuck under a rock slide until the two searching AIBOs find it and dig it out • 2 ‘Searching’ AIBOs • Tandem mapping the area that the injured AIBO was last seen in, in attempts to rescue it and return it home safely

  5. Criteria For Ending • 2 Ways to determine that the injured AIBO has been rescued • Successful Ending • Getting back to the starting point (the point the Searching AIBOs start at) within the allotted time • Unsuccessful Ending • Timer runs out and the injured AIBO does not make it out alive

  6. Point System • Injured AIBO’s life timer • Needs to be found within the first X minutes in order to be rescued • If found able to be assisted out of the maze • If not found in time dead on arrival • Definition of Found • Checkpoints • Color coded

  7. Environment • Checkpoints • Obstacles • Starting Location

  8. Data Exchange • How to Exchange The Data • TCP • What Messages • The Map • The “orders” • To whom • The Map = Server • The orders = the injured AIBO

  9. Statistical Significance • Mapping Error

  10. Fairness • Time to get out of the maze • Determined by the size of the room • Will be communicated to the searching AIBOs • Checkpoint/Goal deadline • Time to Goal • Number of checkpoints to go through • Checkpoint recognition (for the injured AIBO) • Using the IR sensor to identify the distance to the checkpoint
