We intend to use to very similar, old fashioned, antique looking necklaces to connect the enchantress and the young girl. The necklace to the right is the one that will be worn by the enchantress and is more silver in colour than the other. They will both be tied round the characters necks with the same black ribbon because it stands out against their skin, shows and connotes more similarities between the two and continues through with the theme of dark costumes and makeup. This suggests the sinister nature of the fairies and their world. The necklace to the right will be worn by the young girl, it has a bronze-like colour and has lots of marks and dents which give it the appearance of being passed down through generations, The fact that they are lockets and could possibly have something hidden inside them or be magical is typical the fantasy. By showing them in the trailer we aim to make the connection between the characters clear and intrigue the audience as to what they mean, if they are significant or what they might have inside.
Another prop is an antique book, pictures to the right. We chose to use this because it looks like the typical, old, magical fairy-tale books that you find in fantasy films. The book is one that I found in a second hand and antique books store and though that it would work well because it is about 150 years old so the paper is aged, the hardcover seems to be covered in leather which is gold embossed down the side. There is no title on the front and the writing is small so the contents are irrelevant which means that we can use it as a fantasy or fairy-tale book. We will use it in a scene involving the young girl reading on her bead or a window ledge and then seeing the enchantress. We also plan to use a scroll with a riddle written on it, show here. Amber found some old looking paper in a textile shop and wrote a riddle she found on it. This riddle will act as one of the tasks the girl has to overcome i.e. proving wisdom. The font is in typical, graceful, old fashioned, fantasy style, as is the notion of old scrolls and riddles which feature often in fantasy e.g. the egg riddle in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Having to prove wisdom as well as other things to show worthiness is also common in fantasy e.g. Ofelia having to prove that she is ‘pure of heart' so that she can return to the fantasy world, or Aragorn having to become king in order to prove himself worthy for Elrond to allow him to marry Arwen.
We also had the idea of using food for a scene containing one the tasks that’s the character has to overcome. We chose food that would be the favourite sweet foods of the girl in our trailer e.g. lolly-pops, chocolate bars, apples, orange, biscuits etc. We did consider using entirely fruit and Halloween style foods like toffee apples but this way the food would seem as more of a temptation to her as it was food she loves, knows and would have more trouble resisting. Including fruit also made the food seem slightly more mystical. We will most ,likely lay this food out on some kind of table or bench, on a rock, a tree stump or just on the ground. Other props we may use are lanterns either paper lanterns or the glass and metal frame ones.
