  2. VALLEY POINT MIDDLE A Title I School • Title I funding is federal money given to school districts based on the number of low-income families in each district. • VPM uses Title I funding to improve academic achievement for all students. • VPM involves parents in the educational process.

  3. Title I Budget • Provides teacher funding for additional staff to improve student achievement and family involvement • Provides teacher training in the latest research based instructional methods and strategies. • Provides funding for additional classroom technology and resources

  4. Family Engagement Money • Family Engagement Money is spent on • Academic Nights at school • Communications to families such as newsletters and good news cards. • Parent Resource Center (located at the front entrance by the front office)

  5. How does our school participate?Help Students, Teachers and Families Title I programs can help: • Children do better in school and feel better about themselves. • Teachers understand the needs and concerns of students and families. • Families understand and be more involved in their child’s educational experience.

  6. Title I Schoolwide Requirements • Notify parents about the school’s policies • Hold an annual meeting to discuss school’s family engagement plan, funding, and the rights of families to be involved • Involve families in planning, review, and implementation of Title I programs and documents • Provide information about state standards and curriculum and how families can monitor their student’s progress

School WideGoals • Increasing student achievement, specifically in reading and math by 3%. • Increasing the percentage of English Learners with positive movement as measured by the ACCESS test from 35% to 40%. • Increasing the percentage of students attending school 90% or more on school days will also improve by 3%.

  8. What programs/supports are in place to help my child? • Connections classes • Math/Language Support class • Science Enrichment class • Study Skills • Enrichment classes such as art, leadership & robotics • Response to Intervention classes in math & ELA to support students who are below grade level • After school tutoring (beginning in January)

Valley Point’s CCRPI Score • CCRPI stands for College and Career Ready Performance Index • CCRPI is a comprehensive school improvement, accountability, and communication platform for all educational stakeholders that will promote college and career readiness for all Georgia public school students. • Valley Point’s CCRPI score was 78 for 2019. • Our climate rating was 5 stars out of 5!

  11. Curriculum • The Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) from the curriculum used for Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, and PE. • The Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) are used as the basis for some of our Connections classes.

  12. Testing • Subject-area common assessments-measures a childs progress on units of study • MAP (Measure of Academic Progress)- measures what the student knows and what they are ready to learn next. • RI (Reading Inventory)- measures reading comprehension

  13. Testing continued.. • WIDA ACCESS test for English Language Learners- measures progress in English Language proficiency. • Georgia Milestones Assessments- measures content standards that are outlined by state adopted content standards.

Proficiency levels for GA Milestones The four achievement levels on Georgia Milestones are Beginning Learner, Developing Learner, Proficient Learner, and Distinguished Learner. • Beginning Learner: do not yet demonstrate proficiency • Developing Learner: demonstrates partial proficiency • Proficient Learner: demonstrates proficiency • Distinguished Learner: demonstrates advanced proficiency

Infinite Campus How to access previous test performance and attendance? • Login to infinite campus • On left hand side click “more” • A new page will pop up and you can click on “SLDS Portal” on the right side of the page • Then you will be able to see the students attendance record, lexile levels, and GA Milestones test scores from previous years.

  16. Family Engagement Policy • This is a comprehensive document that outlines how families can be involved in the school program. • The Family Engagement Policy is on Valley Point’s website and will be sent home with our compacts. There are copies here for you to take home. • There are also copies of the district’s Parent and Family Engagement Policy here for you to take home.

  17. School-Parent Compact • This is a document that lists the responsibilities of each person in creating the highest probability of success for the student. We have copies of the updated compact for you to view tonight. • It will be sent home with students, as well as, available in the Parent Resource Center and our website. There are copies here for you to take home.

  18. Professionally Qualified Staff • The staff at Valley Point Middle School is professionally qualified. If a situation arises where a teacher or substitute teacher is employed for more than four weeks and is not professionally qualified, families of all students in that teacher’s class will be notified.

  19. Right to Know Families have the right to request information concerning the qualifications of teachers and paraprofessionals who work with the students.

Family Engagement Opportunities • Title I Academic Nights • STEAM Night October 29th • World Nations Night/ Milestones Information Meeting March 23rd • Band Concerts/ Robotics Competitions • Serve on VPM school council • Participate in Parent Survey opportunities throughout the year • Participate in Parent Input meetings

Families and Schools as Partners • Families have the right to request opportunities for regular meetings to make suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their student. • The school must respond to any such suggestions from families as soon as practicably possible.
