Before Fame • Before Desi was famous, he lived in Santiago, Cuba with his family. • The Arnaz family was very wealthy, so Desi attended a private school called Jesuit Preparatory School. • They fled from Cuba during the 1933 revolution and then lived in Miami. • Desi’s father was the youngest mayor of Santiago and a member of the Cuban House of Representatives. (explains the wealth)

  4. Marriages Desi married his first wife, Lucille Ball, on November 30, 1940 They divorced on May 4, 1960 Desi then married Edith Mack Hirsh in 1963 They were still married when Desi died

  8. Music Career • Desi Arnaz was a talented musician. He made his professional debut as a guitarist for the Siboney Septet in 1936. When later was offered the chance to work for Xavier Cugat in New York, he accepted, in spite of the resulting pay cut. • During his “I Love Lucy” years, Desi started his own orchestra. Their first hit was “Babalu” .
