Vocabulary Strategies: Use Multiple Meaning Words Multiple Meaning Words are words: • Are spelled and pronounced the same but have different meanings • Possibly have different parts of speech Use context clues to find the meaning of the multiple meaning words in the following sentences: • The glass had only one drop of juice. Be careful not to drop the plate. • It is important to be present at school everyday. Mom gave me a present for my birthday. • What does this word mean? Don’t be mean to others!

  4. Comprehension Skills: Compare and Contrast • Why do readers compare and contrast? • To better understand people , things or events • To learn something new How are tornados and hurricanes alike and how are they different?

  5. Prepare to Read: Text Features: Map with a bird’s eye view. • Read pages 18-29 • What do you learn from the bird’s eye view map on page 18?

  9. Edit and Revise the Model • Writing Model chart p. 26- model 2 • Why do some animals sleep during Winter. When snow covers the ground, food is hard to find. Animals such as bears and woodchucks eat a lot before Winter. Then they find a place to sleep that is safe from the wether. These animals stay asleep until it gets warm in the spring. If the animals did not eat enuff before they hibernated, they might die.
