Skills for Health update • Successfully re-licensed • Retain core Sector Skills Council remit • Reducing skill gaps and shortages • Improving productivity and performance • Increasing opportunities to boost skills (whole workforce) • Improving learning supply (standards, qualifications, education) • Review and re-focus

How does London differ? • Workforce • Lowest number of part time workers • Highest qualifications • Highest predicted retirements • Health divide • Future Problems is the dominant health group of concern in London (18% of resident population). The average for England and the UK is 12%. • Out of the whole of the UK, 4 Local Authorities in London account for the highest percentages of residents harbouring ‘future problems’

So what does this mean for the London Health Sector • Anticipated increase demand for health care • Reducing pool of potential people to attract into the workforce • Impact of new Government policy • Plurality of providers – changing patterns of service provision • Greater integration of health and social care • Continuing demand for greater productivity • Need to maintain quality – with patients at the centre of everything we do
