Childhood • Born on January 4th 1809. • Grew up in Coupvray, France. • Blinded in one eye by an accident in his father’s workshop. • The other eye got infected and he was totally blind at 3 years old.
Education • Went to school at The Royal Institute for Blind Youth in Paris. • First principal’s name was Dr.Pigner. • Books had raised print. • Invented Braille at 12 years old. • It was raised dots. It was easier to read.
Adulthood • Teacher at The Royal Institute for Blind Youth. • Taught Braille letters. • Principal burned books because he didn’t like new things. • Students hid Braille writing.
Accomplishments • Accomplished many things. • Graduated from Royal Institute. • Great pianist. • Taught Braille.
Old Age • Stopped teaching at 35. • Had tuberculosis. • Jan.6,1852 Louis died.
Death • Not one newspaper was written about him after he died. • 100 years later newspapers all over were about Louis. • Buried in Coupvray. • His coffin got carried thruoghCoupvray .
