  1. Sponsoring the Teen Centerin the New Haselwood “Silverdale Y” Who – What – Where – How – When - Why Rotary Club of Silverdale Long Term Project Proposal

  2. Who? If not us, who? Rotary Club of Silverdale Rotary: Community leaders who have a passion for service to others and who believe that investing their time, talents and resources in Service Above Self is the best way to build strong communities. The Y: From its Christian roots, devoted to Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility supported by the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith. Natural Partners with Common Goals HaselwoodFamily Y Our Young People - Teens

  3. What? Many of the youth programs at the Y are offered as a Community service, open to non-members without charge! Silverdale Rotary Teen Center at the Haselwood Family Y in Silverdale Our Rotary Club has, for many years, recognized the need for a well supervised centrally located modern facility to serve our teens. Now we have the opportunity to bring this vision to a reality. Teen Programs at the Y • Typical Programs (Gig Harbor) • Teen Fitness – Supervised cardio and strength programs • School District Collaboration – Middle School Program • Teen Late Nite – Supervised Friday/Saturday – open to all! • Youth and Government – Learning State legislative process • Teen Center – A safe, supervised, fun place to hang out

  4. Where? The Haselwood Family Y is scheduled to open in the summer of 2011 The new Y is under construction just a few blocks from where we meet every week. Modeled after the recently opened Gig Harbor Y, the building will be stunning in its beauty and functionality. Designed, built, and staffed by professionals who know their business inside-out, the facility and staff will deliver eye-watering levels of service to our community. The Teen Center is a central component to the facility and the overall Y experience.

  5. How? Some possible scenarios to fund the project. There are many other possibilities! We can make this happen with a pledge to the Y of $250,000 over a seven year period of time. The Rotary Club would determine exactly how this might be done. This is an achievable goal if we do not limit our creative thinking! • A Second Major Fundraiser • $20K per year - Duck Bucks • $16K per year – NEW • Direct Assessment of Members • $20K per year - Duck Bucks • Less than $20 per month per member

  6. When? If not now, when? The Teen Center and associated programs would be up and running when the Haselwood Family Y opens in the summer of 2011. Our first pledge payment would be in December 2011. Our final pledge payment would be in December 2018. Youth Development Social Responsibility Healthy Living

  7. Why? We have the opportunity, now we need the commitment. • There is a big NEED for this project, not just a want. • Our Rotary Club has been discussing this need and wrestling with how to get the need satisfied for many years. • We now have the opportunity to meet the need by moving ahead with a trusted partner. • With some extra hard work over time we can have the resources in place to be successful.
