  3. First version of Sinhala Key Board, developed by ANCL adopted in the ‘AMICUS’ typesetting system, 1988 Key positions that coincide with Wijesekera Key Board

  4. First version……..features • Correct ‘al-lakuna’ / ‘raepaya’ is selected by the Software depending on the base character • Ispilla is positioned correctly (centered) to base character • All aesthetically right combined characters are addressed by software, keyed as you would type – no special characters • Combined characters assembled with Base Character followed by ‘rakaransaya’ & ‘ispilla’/ ‘al-lakuna’ are independent of the key-in sequence • All variations of ‘the-yanna’ are addressed & available • All characters/variations except ‘illuyanna’ are available, and accessed through normal key in sequences. • ‘Type as you write’………. • Sinhala sorting ‘Algorithm’ is developed by ANCL… done in Classified advertisements of ‘Silumina’

  5. Second version of Sinhala Key-board, developed by ANCL adopted in the ‘HELAWADANA’ Key-board driver (ANCL ver.) for Windows® 95/98, 1998 Key positions that coincide with Wijesekera Key Board

  6. Second version………. added features • Two/Three versions of ‘pillas’ are available on the font, addressed correctly by key-bd driver/look-up tables, dependent on the base character • Freedom to font designer • ‘Key as you write’ • Sinhala hyphenation is improved

  7. Proposed Key Board Key positions that coincide with Standard US 101 Key Board Neighboring Key blocks, extracted from the Wijesekera Key Board Newly introduced pairs

Proposed Key Board…… • Punctuation marks & other special characters are as in the US-101 layout • The basic main characters/pairs are left un-altered but shifted two/three positions to the left with respect to the Wijesekera Key Board lay-out • The two Pre-Base characters / elements are placed on the left side of the key-board • Post-base characters / elements are placed on the right side of the keyboard • ‘Zero width non-joiner’ & ‘Zero width joiner’ are placed on the ‘back slash’ key (the reason for selecting this key ; the physical key position changes on different Key board manufacturers)
