  1. To Never Stumble April 30, 2013 Traders Point Church of Christ

  2. To Never Stumble 2 Peter 1:2-7 knowledge knowledge 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

  3. To Never Stumble Their importance: Peter states to “give all diligence” (vs 2) and again states “be even more diligent” (vs 10). Peter states to “add” or “supply”(vs 5). These things are to be “ours”. (vs 8) We are to “abound” in these things. (Vs 8) These things “make our call and election sure”. (Vs 10). We are blind if we lack these things and also that we have forgotten our salvation (vs 9). Peter is about to die yet wants to ensure that they (and us!) have a reminder. (vs 13-15).

  4. To Never Stumble How to supply these things: Faith is the basis. The first thing is added to our faith. Epichoregeo: “to supply or fund, as in ‘a costly and generous gift’ as in a Greek drama festival”. These things are connected. A logical order.

  5. To Never Stumble FAITH Virtue Psalm 15:1-5

  6. To Never Stumble Virtue Knowledge Eph 5: 15 “do not be unwise, understand the will of the Lord”. Psalm 19:7 The Lord’s testimony makes making wise the simple Phil 1:9 abound more in knowledge and all discernment 2 Peter 3:14-18 “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord…” Hebrews 5:14 “By reason of use”

  7. To Never Stumble Knowledge Self control 1 Peter 1:14: “not conforming to the former lusts” when we were ignorant Gal 5:23: Fruit of the spirit. 1 Cor 10:13: not tempted more than can be handled. Phil 4:8: Think on these things…

  8. To Never Stumble Self control Perseverance James 5:7-11: be patient until the coming of the Lord like a farmer waits for harvest.

  9. To Never Stumble Perseverance Godliness Rom 6:19: speaks of the weakness of your flesh – “present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness” 1 Tim 3:16: the mystery of Godliness. Romans 8:29: be conformed to the image of His son. Col 3:8-11: Put off these…

  10. To Never Stumble Godliness Brotherly Kindness 1 John 4:7-8, 20 : Love one another b/c love is of God. Rom 12:9-13: be kindly affectionate to one another.

  11. To Never Stumble Brotherly Kindness LOVE 1 John 4:9-11, 19; Romans 5:8; Eph 5:25; 1 Peter 1:22; 1 Cor 13:13; 1 Thes 3:12

  12. To Never Stumble Why do we need to grow in these things? 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  13. To Never Stumble Why do we need to grow in these things? We will never be barren nor unfruitful in the Knowledge of the Lord. We will NEVER STUMBLE! We will have an entrance SUPPLIED ABUNDANTLY into the everlasting kingdom of the Lord!
