The mission of The Maryland and District of Columbia Society of Clinical Oncology, Inc., ("MDCSCO") is: • To improve the quality and delivery of care in medical oncology in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. • To promote appropriate standards of care in oncology. • To cooperate with investigators conducting cancer research. • To assist in the continuing education of oncologists. • To educate the public, the government, insurance carriers, and other health care providers about appropriate prevention of cancer and current therapeutic options for patients with cancer.

MDCSCO hosted Its first Cancer Forum in Anne Arundel County in April 2007. The event was well-received, but it was clear that it would be necessary to set up a an allied foundation to ensure its long-term fiscal viability. Building on Our Cancer Forum
Oncology Foundation of Maryland and the District of Columbia • Designed to be a 501(3) organization so that donations are tax deductible. • Trustees will be community leaders with an interest in cancer education. There will be Council of Advisors to ensure broad input from the cancer care community. • MDCSCO will have a physician liaison with the Foundation and the president will serve as an ex-officio member of the Foundation Board. • The Foundation will conduct Cancer Forums throughout Maryland and DC and promote other cancer education activities.
Foundation Status Report • Incorporated in Maryland • Bylaws drafted • Board in place and meeting regularly • Board leadership elected • IRS Form 1023 filed • Target date for first event – Fall 2009
