  2. Pré – Romantismo • Revolução Liberal – 1820 • D. João VI – Regresso em 1822 • 1ª Constituição Portuguesa - 1822 (Carta Constitucional) institui: • A Monarquia Constitucional ou Liberal • Os princípios iluministas: • Separação dos poderes; • Liberdade, direitos e garantias para os cidadãos; • Soberania da nação. • Independência do Brasil: D. Pedro – 1º Imperador (7 de Setembro de 1822) • 1826 – Morte de D. João VI • Regência do Reino – D. Isabel Maria (filha)

  3. Sucessão ao Trono: D. Pedro IV ( I do Brasil) vs. D. Miguel Liberalismo vs. Absolutismo • D. Pedro sobe ao trono, abdica em função da filha, D. Maria da Glória, e regressa ao Brasil. Tendo a filha 7 anos, D. Miguel é nomeado Regente. • D. Miguel restaura o Absolutismo, excepto na Ilha Terceira.

  4. 1831 – D. Pedro abdica do trono do Brasil e, com o apoio de Londres, desembarca no Mindelo. • Guerra Civil – 1832-1834 • 1834 – D. Miguel assina a Convenção de Évora-Monte  Fim da Guerra • Garrett nomeado cônsul-geral em Bruxelas, onde estuda Goethe e a Literatura alemã.
