Office-Based InterventionsTarget:Primary Care Physicians in OB/GYN, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics • Baseline survey of provider STD screening practices • DVD-“Talking to Young People about STDs.” • Discussion about barriers to taking sexual history and routine screening • Dissemination of STD and Chlamydia screening guidelines • HIV Counseling & Testing/Reporting/Partner Notification Algorithm • Review of Chlamydia diagnostic tests • Education about confidentiality and Minor’s Rights in New York State
A significant proportion of providers (80%) were not familiar with NAAT, and only 2% had used it Provider-perceived barriers to STD screening and prevention activities for adolescents/young adults centered around confidentiality issues and discomfort about taking a sexual history Providers were uncertain about health plan coverage for routine Chlamydia screening and use of NAAT Summary of Provider Survey Results
