  1. Group assignment • Each question should be answered within the limits of 4000 characters (blanks included) • They should be sent to me by e-mail (staffan.graner@econhist.gu.se) before the text seminar 13/10 • At the seminar each of you should bring a copy of the text and be prepared to present and discuss them.

  2. Design Questions (SG) • Choose two of the four articles and compare the relation between research problem, purpose and questions. • Are these concepts explicitly defined? If you don’t find an explicit purpose statement you should suggest one. • How is theory used to motivate the problem, purpose and questions in these articles? Relate to Creswell pp. 51 ff • Choose one of the two remaining articles and describe the method or qualitative procedure (as you would have done it in a proposal to conduct the investigations that the articles present). Look at the examples on page 74-78 in Creswell and use the subheadings under method or procedure that you find relevant.

  3. With the help of Swales (2004:188–192) evaluate two of the course articles by answering the following questions: • What research question(s) is (are) being addressed in this article? • What conclusions do the authors draw from this research? • What kind of evidence is offered in support of these conclusions? • Are the authors’ conclusions valid or plausible based on the evidence? Support your claim. • This concerns the analysis of all four articles. Using Swales (2004:242-264), • Identify the rhethorical moves in the Introduction sections of all the articles and compare them. Which article is best in your opinion? Motivate your choice. • Compare all four Abstracts and identify the rhetorical moves. In what way do they differ?
