11. Who rejoiced? The parents of John the Baptist (Lk 1) – at John’s birth [John] will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. – Lk 1.14-15a

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” – Lk 10.15-17

Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” – Lk 24.30-33

21. Who rejoiced? Disciples – when Jesus was raised from the dead When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, - Lk 24.40

22. Who rejoiced? Disciples (Lk 24) – at the Ascension When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God – Lk 24.50-53

23. Conclusions • Luke presents Jesus’ ministry as a ministry of joy. We can strive to become this kind of ministry as well • Different kinds of people rejoiced (maidens, neighbors, disciples, rich people), even angels! • Their joy was a deep kind of joy – the joy of the spiritual kind.
