  1. THE SOLAR SYSTEMBY Rachael Vandermark • There are 8 planets and 1 dwarf planet Pluto. • The sun is at the center of the solar system.

  2. SUN • The sun can have spots that aredifferent colors depending onhow hot or cold it is. • There are 4 different colors of the sun: blue, orange, green, and yellow. • The sun is personified in many mythologies.

  3. MERCURY • Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. • It circles faster than all other planets. • Mercury is smaller in diameter than the moons Ganymede and Titan.

  4. VENUS • Venus is a twin to Earth because they are similar. • Venus is the 2nd closest to the sun and the 6th largest. • Venus isnamed after a female god.

  5. EARTH • Earth is the planet we live on. • When you are in space it looks all blue because Earth is mostly water. • Earth is made out of mostly water.

  6. MARS • Mars is the 4th planet from the sun. • Mars is the last inner planet. • The color of Mars is a rust color.

  7. THE ASTEROID BELT • Asteroids are small bodies of the Solar System. • The asteroids also orbit around the sun. • The asteroid belt orbits around Mars and Jupiter.

  8. JUPITER • Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun. • Also it is by far the largest planet. • Jupiter is more than twice as massive as all the other planets combined.

  9. SATURN • Saturn has a ring around it. • It is the 6th planet from the sun. • Saturn is the god of agriculture.

  10. URANUS • Uranus is a gas giant. • Uranus has 27 moons, and it is the 7th from the sun.

  11. NEPTUNE • Neptune has at least 13 moons. • It is one of the wildest planets in our solar system • Winds can reach at least 2000 miles per hour.

  12. THE DWARF PLANET PLUTO • Pluto is one dwarf planet. • Tiny Pluto has a rocky surface. • Pluto’s moon is actually the size of Pluto.

  13. Galaxy • Galaxies are sprawling space systems composed of dust, gas, and countless stars. • The number of Galaxies can’t be counted.

  14. Comet • A Comet is an ice body that releases gas or dust. • They often are compared to dirt snowballs. • Comets contain dust, ice, carbon dioxide, and more.

  15. UNIVERSE • The universe is constantly being created and destroyed. • The Universe spans diameter of over 150 billion.

  16. OTHER DWARF PLANETS • Some dwarf planets are Pluto, Eris, 2003 ElL61, and Orcus. • There are5 Dwarf Planets in our Solar System. • The name of the 5 Dwarf Planets they are Ceres, Pluto, Haumea.

  17. TELESCOPE • Telescope is something that lets you see far away. • There are a wide range of telescopes that work in different ways. • They were first being used in 17th century.

  18. CONSTELLATION • A constellation is a group of stars that form a pattern. • There are different constellations like Lepus the hare.

  19. OTHER STARS • Other stars are giant, luminous spheres of plasma. • There are plenty of other stars in the Milky Way.
