Why this project is important for us? • Socio-economic data in the capture sector are generally poor; • Accidents at sea and accident at work are too numerous; • EU is committed to cut the number of accidents at work (OSH strategy 2007-2012); • We should know better the causes of accidents (be they of a meteorological, technical, human origin), in order to prevent occurrences; • Export the model BSRAC - EUSBSR - maritime safety - DG MARE

OSH legislation in fisheries • Dir.93/103 minimum health and safety requirement on board fishing vessels (>15mt) • Dir.92/29 minimum safety and health requirements for improved medical treatment on board vessels (3 categories of vessels, depending on the trip); • Working time (Dir.n°2003/88 Art.21) [social partners agreement on work in fisheries]; • National legislation Financial support to improve safety on board • EFF (R.n°1198/2006, Art.37) • EMFF (COM(2011)804), Art.33) • National insurance schemes (compare rules and promote mobility) BSRAC - EUSBSR - maritime safety - DG MARE

EUROSTAT REQUIREMENTSESAW (European Statistics on Accidents at Work) • R.n°1338/2008 on Community statistics on public health and health and safety at work • R.n°328/2011 • R.n°349/2011 Member states shall supply to the Commission statistics on: …iv) accidents at work; v occupational diseases and work-related illnesses • When : Annually and not later than 18 months after the end of the reference year; • How: through electronic means, using the single entry point at the Commission (Eurostat: eDAMIS); BSRAC - EUSBSR - maritime safety - DG MARE

  7. ESAW (2) • An accident at work : a discrete occurrence in the course of work which leads to physical or mental harm. • Data shall be collected for fatal accidents and work accidents resulting in more than 3 days of absence from work, using administrative sources. • Reporting on accidents at work relating to self-employed is on a voluntary basis. • As regards fisheries(NACE B), reporting is compulsory as of 2015 for accidents notified in 2013.
