  3. Male Reproductive System I. Penis – external organ A. Functions - part of both Urinary and Reproductive Systems 1. Passage of urine 2. Passage of semen – fluid that may contain sperm 3. Reacts to sensual feelings – erection B. Parts - 1. Foreskin- skin surrounding the tip of the penis may be surgically removed by circumcision (at birth) 2. Shaft - body of the penis - blood vessels/spongy tissue under skin 3. Urethra – for passage of urine or semen

  4. Male Reproductive System II. Scrotum – externalsac of skin A. Supports and protects both testes B. Skin contains muscle fibers C. Regulates temperature of testes for sperm production D. Keeps testes 1 to 8 degrees below internal body temperature

  5. Male Reproductive System III. Testicles (Testes) – male reproductive organs and glands A. Two glands/organs B. Produce sperm cells – approx. 150 million each day C. Produce male hormone - testosterone D. Tubules – sperm production

Vas Deferens –tubes through which sperm pass A. Two tubes 15 to 18 inches long B. Connects epididymis to the seminal vesicles

  8. Male Reproductive System VII. ProstateGland – production of Semen A. Surrounds urethra; below bladder B. Secretes milky substance important for sperm life, motility C. Prostate fluid and Seminal fluid combine to form semen

  9. Male Reproductive System VII. Cowper Glands – Bulbo-urethral Glands A. Two glands just below Prostate Gland B. Secretes substance to “clean” urethra prior to ejaculation C. Pre-ejaculatory discharge doescontainsperm X. Urethra – Passage for urine or semen A. Internal tube from bladder to tip of penis B. Part of both Reproductive System and Urinary System
