Getting the Job • Want the job? Then here is what you need to do… • Have clean and neatly combed HAIR • NO wild hair colors or styles • NO BODY ODOR • NO visible tattoos • BRUSHED TEETH • Clean-shaved (Males) • Makeup not overdone (Females) • Clean nails and hands • NO gum chewing
Getting the Job • Avoid Nervous Personal habits: • Smoking • Chewing gum • Cracking knuckles • Biting fingernails • Slouching • Waving hands around when talking
Getting the Job • Dress for the job you are applying for: • NO hats, jeans, or T-shirts • Check buttons and zippers • Dress simply and in good taste- NO FADS!!! • Clean, wrinkle-free clothes • Polished shoes or clean tennis shoes • Clothes with no holes or tears (even if it is “IN”)
Neat appearance is important when job hunting, picking up applications, or interviewing. • Show prospective employers that you have PRIDE in yourself and you are more likely to get the job • PRIDE looks like: good grooming appropriate dress, good posture, and positive ATTITUDE.
Grooming • The MOST important rule in GOOD GROOMING is CLEANLINESS: • HAIR- should be washed daily or at minimum every other day • CLOTHES- should be clean and wrinkle free ( NO stains or holes) • BODY- should be washed daily with Deodorant applied daily. Face should be washed every morning. • FINGERNAILS- Should be trimmed and clean. • BREATH- Teeth should be brushed twice a day. Breath should be fresh.
On the Job • DRESS CODES • Some companies provide or require UNIFORMS for their employees. • Many employers prefer females to wear very little makeup and jewelry • Males may have to be clean shaven or wear only short, well-trimmed beards or mustaches. • KNOW THE CODE BEFORE STARTING WORK
The unspoken Dress Code RULES • There are some dress codes that are just understood: • Working with machines- long hair should always be pulled back. • Dirty hair is unacceptable • Don’t wear wrinkly clothes or miss matched clothes • Heavily scented perfumes and colognes are not for the work place. • Check and make sure jeans are appropriate before showing up in them (same goes for a suit) • General dress code for any job is to dress NEATLY and APPROPIATELY. • Which means wearing the clothes, jewelry, and hairstyles suited for the kind of work you do.
