The tetrameric complexes of Co(II),Ni(II),cu(II),Zn(II),Cd(II) and Hg(II) with two new symmetrical OON-NOO donor hexadentate azodye ligands, 1,3-bis(2’-hydroxy-3’-formyl-5’-bromophenylazo)benzene and 4,4’-bis(2’- hydroxy-3’-formyl-5’-lazo)diphenylsulphone have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductance measurement, magnetic, IR, electronic spectra, ESR, NMR, Thermo gravimetric, XRD(powdered pattern) and molecular modeling studies. The antibacterial study of the ligands and some of the complexes has been made against gram positive bacteria S.aureus and gram negative bacteria E.coli, and this study indicates that some complexes are more potent bactericides than the ligands. The Co(II), Ni(II) complexes are found to be octahedral, Cu(II) complexes distorted octahedral and a tetrahedral stereochemistry has been assigned to Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) complexes. All the complexes are found to be thermally stable. A triclinic crystal system for Cu(II)complex with the former ligand and orthorhombic crystal system is suggested for the Co(II) complex with the latter ligand. Crystallite size of the complexes were found to be 0.305 nm for Cu(II) complex with LH2 and 0.862 nm for Co(II) complex with L’H2.

Investigations on Some Divalent Transition Metal Complexes of 10-Membered Tellurium Containing N2S2 Donor Macrocycles

A new series of complexes has been synthesized by template condensation of 2-aminoethanthiol and diaryltellurium dichlorides, R2TeCl2 (R=p-hydroxyphenyl and 3-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) in methanolic medium in the presence of divalent metal chlorides forming complexes of the type [ML1Cl2 ] and [ML2Cl2 ] where [M=Mn (II), Co (II) and Cu (II); L1 and L 2 =10-membered tellurium containing dithiadiaza macrocyclic ligands]. On the basis of elemental analyses, conductance, magnetic moment measurements, 1HNMR, Infrared and electronic absorption spectroscopy their structures have been elucidated. Based on these studies, a six coordinate octahedral geometry for these complexes have been proposed. These metal complexes have also been screened for their antimicrobial activity against some pathogenic bacteria and fungi.

Synthesis and Characterization of Cobalt (II), Nickel (II), and Copper (II) Complexes of Some 2'- Hydroxychalcones

A series of metal complexes of Co (II), Ni (II) and Cu (II) have been synthesized with newly synthesized biologically active ligands. These ligands were prepared by the condensation of substituted 2'- Hydroxyacetophenones and 3, 5 dibromosalicylaldehyde. The structures of the complexes have been proposed by the analytical data, conductivity measurement, magnetic moment, IR, electronic spectral data and thermal studies. Analytical data confirmed 1:2 stoichiometry and the electronic spectral data suggest that all Co (II), Ni (II) complexes have octahedral geometry whereas Cu (II) complexes have square planar geometry. Presence of coordinated water molecules in Co (II) and Ni (II) complexes is confirmed by TGA studies. The conductivity data show that all these complexes are non electrolytes.

Metal(II) salts react with Schiff base ligand in 1:1 molar ratio. The ligand and its complexes are stable at room temperature and all of them are nonhygroscopic also. The elemental analysis for carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen were performed by micro analytical methods. Apart from this, the geometry of the newly synthesized compounds has been explained based on their elemental analysis, molar conductivity and spectral data. The molar conductance measurements of all the complexes in DMF solution correspond to electrolytic nature for the complexes except Mn(II) complexes.
