Mel Steele of Boston attended the University of Delaware on an athletic scholarship. Steele played football and lacrosse in high school. After earning his Sociology degree from the University of Delaware, Steele went to work as a youth rehabilitation counselor at the New Castle County Detention Center in Delaware. He took this unique experience to the Boston Police Academy and soon became involved in the Gang Unit.
