Just-in-Location Learning (JILL) • A New Learning Paradigm • This paradigm will empower lifelong learners to acquire knowledge based upon their location and natural curiosity at their own pace. • Learners are given the opportunity to seek information based on their geographical location.
JILL • The facilitator is a mobile device featuring location technologies. • The learners dictate what they want to know in reference to their location. • They are in control of the line of inquiry they choose to pursue and will be subject to the type of information available on the “location specific knowledge base”.
JILLExamples • JILL may provide the history of a building to an active learner. • The geographical location and surrounding area of the learner is displayed
JILLExamples • The user faces a building • JILL identifies it. • JILL displays topics for learning opportunities.
JILLExamples • The user selects a topic. • Information is provided just-in-location.
LBS - Privacy • Law • Notification • Users must be notified whenever they are being tracked/localized. • Levels • Without notification • Notify all the time • Anonymous • Internationalization
LBS: Privacy • Problem • Crime • Criminals may know where you are… • Being at the wrong place at the wrong time. • Modus vivendi • Humans are not used to broadcast their location at all times. • …not even to friends.
Wireless Multimedia Streaming • Purpose: • Essential to provide seamless quality experience for audio and video transmissions • MPEG-4 has been selected by Wireless Multimedia Forum (WMF) and the 3rd Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) for use in the mobile environment.
