  2. Saving and Filing • Places you can save your files on a PC or Mac are My Documents, My Computer, My Music, My Recent Documents, and My Pictures. • At school the places I have to save my files is under my computer and then its in my own little program that has most of my files. • The software programs I have used are all part of Microsoft Office, like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

  3. Types of Software • System Software: System software helps in running your computer hardware and computer system • Application Software: This software helps run programs like Microsoft Office and other things that can help you accomplish tasks. • Data Software: This software helps save things and backup programs so it makes it easy to retrieve backed up data. This software often supports user needs of specifying what is to be backed up and when.

  4. Computer Hardware • Motherboard: It is the central or primary circuit board making up a complex electronic system such as a computer. • Floppy disk: It is a data storage device • CPU: A CPU is the main component of a digital computer that interprets instructions and process data in computer programs. • Power supply: Power Supply supplies electrical energy to the computer making it run. • RAM: A RAM allows the stored data to be accessed in any order.

  5. Computer Hardware cont… • CD-ROM drive: It contains data accessible by a computer • Computer Bus: It is used to transfer data or power between computer components inside a computer or between computers. • Basic Input Output System: BIOS prepares the software programs to load execute, and control the computer. • Zip Drive: It is a medium capacity removable disk storage system • Hard Disk: It is a non-volatile data storage system that stores data

  6. Computer History • 1938- Konrad Zuse creates the Z1 Computer a binary digital computer using punch tape. • 1945- The term computer ‘bug’ was first used by Grace Hopper • 1947- Douglas Engelbart theorizes on interactive computing with keyboard and screen display instead of on punch cards • 1962- The first computer game Spacewar Computer Game was invented by Steve Russell & MIT • 1963- Douglas Engelbart invents and patents the first computer mouse • 1984- Apple introduces the Macintosh with mouse and window interface • 1991- The World Wide Web is launched to the public on August 6, 1991 • 1994- YAHOO is created in April, 1994. • 1998- Google is founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page on September 7, 1998 • 2001- Bill Gates introduces the Xbox on January 7th 2001.

  7. Units of Measurement • Bit: 0 or 1 bit • Byte: 8 bits • Kilobyte: 1000 bytes • Megabyte: 1000 kilobytes • Gigabyte: 1000 megabytes • Terabyte: 1000 gigabytes • Petabyte: 1000 terabytes • Exabyte: 1000 petabytes • Zettabyte: 1000 exabytes • RAM: random acces memory

  8. The First PC • The first real PC was the Apple II. It was cheap and was easy to learn how to use. It was factory made and had color graphics. It was created by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

  9. First Laptop • In 1979 the first laptop was invented by a British man named William (Bill) Moggridge. It was used by NASA in the space shuttle program. It had a 340 Kilobyte bubble memory system.

  10. Virus, Worm, and Trojan Horse • Computer virus’s are small software programs that are designed to spread from one computer to another and interfere with computer operation. • A worm is a reproducing program that runs independently and travels across network connections. Causes harm to the ntwork then. • A trojan horse is a program that pretends to be something its not and spreads viruses throughout your computer. A common Trojan horse would be a program that says it gets rid of virus’s but spreads them.

  11. 5 Major Computer Companies • 1: Dell founded by Michael Dell • 2: HP founded by Hewlett and Packard • 3: Microsoft founded by Bill Gates • 4: Apple founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak • 5: Toshiba founded by Tanaka Hisashige

  12. What We Will Use in the Future • I think what we use in the future will be very advanced and have a lot of memory storage and they will all be touch screen computers with very high speed. Not only that but the computer itself will be very small so no space will be needed to put the computer itself. Like the Mac computer but even smaller.
