10Global Studies, 11/20/12Aim: How are key periods in global history linked to one another?Title: Links between historical periods Objective: Chronological sequencing of historical periods Agenda Do Now: Create the alphabet from A to Z in your notebook as shown. Write down as many terms, phrases, and vocabulary as you can think of related to our study in Global so far. (3 min) Pair Share: Take 2 minutes to share your terms with your neighbor and write down any of their terms you may have missed. (2 min) Whole Class Share: Share back your work with the whole class. Ellie or Jason will chart your ideas on the board. Remember One Mic. (5 min)
With your group, you will: • Review a list of 8 time periods from our study of Global so far. • Put them in chronological order. You can either list them or place them on a timeline—your choice. • Identify 2 important details about each period (use your Do Now word list to help you develop your ideas). Visually depict each period if you choose. • Choose at least 2 consecutive periods and explain how they are linked in ½ page. How did one lead to the other? You can do this on loose leaf and attach it to your chronology. • --This project is due tomorrow 1st period. What you don’t complete you’ll finish for HW. • --Make sure your work is clear, complete, and colorful. We will hang exemplary work in the classroom to support our understanding of the historical periods we are studying. • --Also, each group needs a leader. Take 1 min to decide on your leader—show via share of hands.
Mini-Lesson: (7 min) • Introduce today’s focus—review of the historical periods we’ve studied. • Fall of the Roman Empire • Middle Ages—Feudalism and Manorialism • The Crusades • Revival of Trade • The Renaissance • Protestant Reformation • Scientific Revolution • Age of Exploration and Mercantilism
Group Work (25 min). Ellie, Jason, and Lisa will circulate and support as necessary. • Closing and HW Prep (5 min). Introduce HW for tomorrow and collect completed projects. Differentiation: • Choice of direction for project (list vs. timeline, visual depiction if chosen) • Cooperative group work. • Word association with partner and whole-class shares.
