  17. Administrator Benefits • Easy to distribute information • Cost effective • Assess and evaluate student interests via use of the portal

Limitations of Web Portals • There is a potential to overload the students with information, so the committee will need to take this into consideration. • Our belief is that initial cost will be higher than traditional means of communication, but over time the cost will become less. • The appointed committee will decide the layout and concept, the ideas presented here are just examples.

Data to Support Web Portals “In a recent survey by Edu-cause, the education-technology consortium, institutional portals ranked fourth among the top-10 technology issues that college administrators expected would gain importance in the next 12 months” (Olsen, 2002). University of Buffalo noted a 3% increase in freshmen retention after one year with their portal (Olsen, 2002). University of Washington at Seattle think that this will allow students and alumni to stay better connected to university (Olsen, 2002).

  25. Conclusion We feel that developing My EU will have many benefits to our campus community. While My EU provides benefits to the community, it should also be a community driven project.
