  5. Juliet Capulet • Young girl- almost 14yrs old • Has her own mind, but is still very naïve • Family hates Romeo • Falls in love and pretends to be dead to be with Romeo. • Stabs herself when she learns Romeo is dead • Protagonist

  6. Friar Laurence • Romeo’s Advisor • Amateur botanist • Marries the lovers • Concocts sleeping potion for Juliet • Granted pardon after deaths • Optimist

  7. Friar John • He was supposed to deliver a letter to Romeo about Juliet and the Friar's plan, but Romeo did not get it-plague and quarantine

  8. Nurse • Raises Juliet • Allows the couple to see each other • Realist-loves true love • Provides comic relief to the play

  9. Prince Escalus • Prince of Verona provides for law and order • He wants to call a truce and end the family feud- It has reached the stage of becoming a public issue • After Tybalt is killed, he banishes Romeo and orders the families to cease their feud
