  4. When should you combine sentences?Too many short sentences Reading the same type of sentence over and over again can also be boring. Notice how too many short sentences make this paragraph boring to read. Now see how sentence combining makes the paragraph shorter and more interesting. Thomas Edison created a talking doll in 1894.
