THE LOS ANGELES QUARTER: Overview • Beginning Fall 2011 Quarter • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday = Reserved for Internship • Tuesday and Thursday = Enrolled in Three Courses (Taught by a DePaul Professor) • Classes Held on a Historic Hollywood Lot • Live in a Fully Furnished Apartment with other DePaul Students

  3. INTERNSHIP: Overview • Internships are the key to getting paid employment in many companies • Where do you want to work after graduation? • Help us help you find that dream work environment

INTERNSHIP: Overview • Los Angeles Quarter students need to go through formal application process at the companies • We want you to take an active role in finding your internship • Workshops on resumes, interviewing and etiquette in the workplace specifically for designed for Los Angeles Quarter students

INTERNSHIP: Overview • Internship director reaches out to the companies where you want to work • You’re not just ‘just another student’ • Internship coordinators will know: • You have been hand selected by DePaul faculty • Your focus in LA is your internship • Work at your internship is monitored by faculty • Internship coordinators appreciate a Midwestern work ethic

CLASS: Internships in Production and Post-Production • JYEL credit • Learn how to move from your internship into a dream career • Workshops in resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, networking • Guest speakers tell you the ins and outs of getting ahead • In-class discussions about current issues in the industry

CLASS: Hollywood History • Learn about the birth and development of Hollywood • Watch classic films that were shot on the very lot where you are taking classes • Visit and tour studios including Warner Brothers, Universal and Sony http://www.seeing-stars.com/studios/warnerhollywoodstudios.shtml

CLASS: Filmmakers’ Forum • Every week hear from different writers, directors, producers, editors, agents, cinematographers and more • Confirmed speakers include: • Neal Edelstein (Frequent collaborator of David Lynch and producer of Mulholland Drive, The Straight Story, The Ring, The Ring Two) • Karen McCullah(Screenwriter of Ten Things I Hate About You, Legally Blonde, House Bunny, The Ugly Truth and one of the highest paid screenwriters in the business)

PROGRAM FEE: Not Included in Tuition • The fee for this program is estimated to be $5,000 (Fee covers housing, networking event, and studio tours) • Upon acceptance, students are required to submit a Statement of Intent and pay a deposit of $250 • Transportation to and from Los Angeles, living expenses, and car rental is not included in the program fee

LOS ANGELES QUARTER: Participation Requirements • Applicants should have junior or senior status, or be a graduate student • Be in solid academic standing with above average grades (GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale) • Demonstrate independence, initiative, and especially a readiness for studying and living in Los Angeles • Students should speak to their academic and financial aid advisors for information on how participation in the program affects their expected graduation date or financial situation

  14. LOS ANGELES QUARTER: Important Dates • February 18th – Los Angeles Quarter Application Available • March 11th – Application Deadline • April 15th – Students will be Notified of their Admission Status • September 1st – Los Angeles Quarter Program Begins
