8. Opportunities To Engage “And Nobody Said Anything”: Uncomfortable Conversations in the Classroom 1.5 hrs
Participate in discussion in response to short vignettes related to critical teaching classroom moments.
Understand that each individual’s story will contribute to different perspectives and reactions.
Recognize a new awareness of unintentional consequences to classroom actions and words.
Address the tension between free speech and hate speech.
Examine classroom climate related to behavior.
Begin to develop strategies and create tools to address the unexpected in the classroom.

Engage in an exploration of the origins of the construct of race and racism.
Increase critical thinking proficiency regarding contemporary racial, ethnic and cultural issues.
Strategize action steps around anti-racism conduct.

Identify habits that may be unintentionally unproductive.
Explore the affects of how our own histories influence our judgment of others.
Recognize micro-inequities in delivering inclusive service.
Practice tools to build inclusive environments.
Cross Cultural Communication: 1.5 hrs.
Recognize possible cultural barriers to successful communication.
Be aware of idiomatic language and consequence.
Be more accepting without judging others based on what behaviors mean in own culture.
Have a better understanding of the difference in communication across cultures which will help better identify and respond to student and/or colleague needs
Generational Communication 1.5 hrs
Identify and define four generations in the workplace.
Understand the formative years of each generation and their core values.
Use this information to connect and work effectively across generations.
Examine the potential benefits of multi generational workforces.
