  2. Savanna Amazing Animals in African • What is a Savanna? A savanna is a hot, seasonally dry grassland with scattered trees. This environment is intermediate between a grassland and a forest. Savannas are located in the dry tropics and the subtropics, often bordering a rainforest. Savannas have an extended dry season and a rainy season. • Where are Savannas? Savannas are located in Africa, Madagascar (an island off the east coast of Africa), Australia, South America, India, and the Myanmar-Thailand region of Southeast Asia.

  4. Aardvark • means "Earth pig" in Afrikaans, a language of South Africa. • Character: solitary, shy, nocturnal animal. • Habitat: live in African savannas, open grasslands, woodlands, and scrub. • Diet: Aardvarks are insectivores (insect-eaters) that eat ants and termites

  5. Suricate • Character: small, social (group) animal, burrowing mammals • Habitat: live in African savannas. • Diet: Suricate areprimarily insectivores (insect-eaters). But they eat other small animals too. • Classification: Order Carnivores.

  6. Redbilled Oxpecker • Character: usually they perched on large mammals such as rhinos, giraffes, elephants, and cape buffalo in southern Africa. • Habitat: live in savannahs, bush lands, and forests. • Diet: eats its host's skin parasites (like ticks and fleas),

  7. Hippopotamus • means "River Horse" in Greek • Character: spend most of the day resting in water . nocturnal animals (they are most active at night). • Habitat: live in swampy areas, lakes, and rivers in Africa . • Diet: Hippos are herbivores (plant-eaters) .
