  3. Project Planning Exercise Identify the work necessary to build this cottage Olympus: Project Planning

  4. Project Documents • Charter/Authorization • A document issued by the project initiator or sponsor. • Formally authorizes the existence of the project • Provides the project manager with authority • Scope Statement • Narrative description of the project scope • Basics for future project decisions • Confirms common understanding of project scope • Management Plan • The BARF document (bought-in, approved, realistic, formal) defines how the project is executed, monitored and controlled Olympus: Project Planning

  5. Integrated Change Control • Constraints • Scope • Schedule • Cost • Quality • Risks • Customer Satisfaction • NBIf any one of the constraints change it is necessary to measure the impact on other 5. Olympus: Project Planning

  6. Process of identifying scope of work- key actions • 1. Determine how you will do the planning – i.e. individual or team • 2. Understand the scope of the project – identify requirements • 3. Create WBS and WBS dictionary- common language • 4. Create activity list- who does what • 5. Create network diagram- scheduling plan Olympus: Project Planning

  7. Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) • The WBS is a deliverable-oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team, to accomplish the project objectives and create the required deliverables • The WBS subdivides he project work into smaller, more manageable pieces of work, with each descending level of WBS representing an increasingly detailed definition of the project work Olympus: Project Planning

  8. 3.3 Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Project life cycle Work packages Work package Olympus: Project Planning

  9. Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) • Rules for creation of WBS • It is created with the help of the team • The first level is completed before the project is broken down further • Each level of WBS is a smaller piece of the level above • The entire project is included in each of the highest levels of the WBS • Includes only work needed to create deliverables • Followed with WBS Dictionary and Activity List Olympus: Project Planning
