  1. ISR WorkProgress Report Muon Week April 10th 2003 A. Benvenuti INFN Bologna

  2. MB2-P4 MB1-N1 MB1-P11 Under Test MB1-N5 MB1-P12 MB3-P08 MB1-N4 MB1-P10 MB1-N6 MB1-P08 Chamber Stacks Layout In I3-I4 Tunnel (part 1) Stack –2 Stack -1 • All chambers under Gas • Chamber stacks rearranged following gluing of RPC pads on MB2s and arrival of CIEMAT table for cosmic ray test • Space for moving chambers between table and Stack -1 On Alignment bench

  3. Legs must be mounted on chambers to support on iron blocks

  4. Chamber can be moved with simple supports through the alignment passages Cabling and access to front-end much easier/faster

  5. Stack 3 Stack 1 Stack 4 MB2-N11 MB1-P7 MB2-N14 MB2-P18 MB1-N3 MB2-N13 MB2-P19 MB2-N16 MB2-N12 MB1-P9 MB1-N02 MB2-N15 MB2-N09 Chamber Stacks Layout In I3-I4 Tunnel (part 2) Stack 2 Work table to solder HV connectors…. MB2-P17 MB3-P06 MB3-N12 MB3-P10 Chambers under HV HV problems: • MB2N11: Phi1 B connector clicking badly • MB2N12: Phi1 A short, Phi1 B OVC at 3000V • MB2N09: Phi2 B OVC • MB2P18: Phi2 A OVC at 3400V • MB2P19: Theta B connector clicking badly • MB1N03: discharges inside Phi2 B connector • MB1N02: Phi1 A layer 0 board e (at acceptance test)

  6. Stack 8 Stack 7 Stack 6 Stack 5 MB3-N01 MB3-P14 MB2-P06 MB2-P23 MB3-P18 MB3-N05 MB3-P04 MB2-P07 MB3-P16 MB2-P22 MB3-N11 MB2-P21 MB3-N03 MB2-P15 MB2-P20 MB3-P12 MB3-P02 MB2-P05 Chamber Stacks Layout In I3-I4 Tunnel (part 3) MB2-P24 MB2-P02 Chambers under HV Gas Problems • One wrong connector glued to gas cover (bad thread) P02 • 7 gas caps glued to gas cover • MB3 N1 (Phi2, 2), P14(Tht,1), P4(Tht,1),N3(1 on each SL) • HV Problems: • MB3N11: Theta B clicking badly • MB3N03: Phi1 A Layer 0 board e Phi2 B wire short • MB2P24:Phi2A Clicking badly • MB2P21 Phi2A OVC

  7. Stack 9 Stack 10 MB3-N07 MB2-P7 MB2-N10 Chamber Stacks Layout In I3-I4 Tunnel (part 4) Gas distribution pending on the arrival of a valve 375/3Entry • HV Problems: • MB3N07: Phi1 B OVC and badly clicking 12 MB1, 23 MB2 +1(SX5) , 15 MB3 No space left for additional stacks Move MB minus to other side of tunnel (vacated by ATLAS) Set-up shelves for HV cables and Balance beams

  8. DT Chamber Status • All Chambers are complete with RPC Pads • Alignment pins are missing on 1 MB1, 14 MB2, 8 MB3; 3MB2 have shorter pins • Alignment pins are NOT standard CERN items they must be sent from production sites • Alignment passages are often dirty, with a lot of white dust. They should be cleaned at the sites. • Reference blocks should be cleaned of excessive glue • All chambers are under gas flow • All chambers have gone through the HV acceptance test • 25 chambers are under HV: 3 MB1, 7 MB2, 14 MB3 • Leak test still in progress for last MB2 Shipment (Gerd, Paolo) • Cosmic tests done on ~17 MB2, 2 MB3, 5MB1 Phi, 2MB1 Theta • Scaler test on 5 MB1, 4 MB2, 2 MB3 (Chiara)

  9. MB1: N03,N02 MB2: 7 old + 2 new HV boards replaced N09, N11, P18, P19,P21,P24,P04, N12 MB3: N03, N07, N11 3 Dead Boards (Still inside chamber) 10 discharges probably outside cell Improve protection of unused HV pins

  10. Scaler Test • 7 Scalers with 32 channels => 224 not sufficient for one full SL (extend to full MB3) • Gate opened for 1 second • 1000 samples for Noise (16 and 20 mV) • 100 samples with pulser • SL grounded to HC frame and to external ground • HV distribution: one channel/chamber connected to ground on SL • Front end cable ground shield connected to SL cover • Uniform conditions for all chambers • Test can be done with chamber on Stacks

  11. MB1

  12. MB2

  13. MB3

  14. MB2 with problems

  15. MB1 more quiet than MB2 and MB3 only difference is the external ground => Check! • Continue Scaler test to all chambers • Map Scaler output to standard SL numbering • Compare with results from sites but • Noisy channels with rate available on travelers only for MB1

  16. MB3N07 Theta SL

  17. MB3N07 Theta SL

  18. MB3N07 Phi1 SL

  19. MB3N07 Phi1 SL

  20. MB3N07 Phi2 SL

  21. MB3N07 Phi2 SL

  22. Theta SL Noise from HV Phi2 SL No noisy Channels

  23. Phi1 SL Noisy channel Noise from HV supply is a recurring problem Will use same supply for all chambers and grounding scheme Compare different Chambers and types Use HV distribution one channel/chamber but with DT specific map NO HV connection to unused pins Use HV junction boxes as soon as prototypes are available

  24. Schedule Kerstin and two technicians from Aachen will come to work on MB1 chambers in week 21 and 22 (May 19th to 31st)
