  1. Radiation Safety Training Requirements

  2. Each Authorized User (AU) must have the following types of radiation safety trained personnel named within his/her permit;Certified Radiation Workers & Certified Advanced Radiation WorkersAt least one Advanced Radiation Worker is required for each permit

  3. Authorized Usersmust initially train their employeesas Radiation Workers before allowing them to work in a radiation laboratory.

  4. All Radiation Worker Training must be documented using form;“UGA Radiation Worker Certificate”Available on line at “FORMS”http://www.esd.uga.edu/rad/index.htmOnce completed this form must be returned to the RSO.A copy will be provided for your records

  5. Once you become a UGA Certified Radiation Worker you must complete Annual On-Line Requalification Training on the UGA/RSOweb page at: “ANNUAL REFRESHER”http://www.esd.uga.edu/rad/index.htmPlease download and keep a certificate of each annual training

  6. UGA Advanced Radiation Workeris an individual who through appropriate training and experience is qualified and authorized to work independently with radiation sources and to supervise such use by others, e.g., laboratory radiation technician. Certification is by taking the training modules required by the Radiation Safety Office. After passing an exam for each required module will a person become certified. A minimum score of 70 is required on each exam. If an exam is failed then a retest will be performed. If the retest is failed, then the module must be retaken.

  7. Once you become an UGA Certified Advanced Radiation Worker you must complete Annual On-Line Requalification Training on the UGA/RSOweb page at: “ANNUAL REFRESHER”http://www.esd.uga.edu/rad/index.htmPlease download and keep a certificate of each annual training

  8. Training ModulesIndividual classes focusing on certain areas of radiation safety Curriculum is flexible for students & staff Modules are usually offered quarterly per year Start at Module 0, and ends with Module 3 Registration is easy

  9. Advanced Radiation Worker (ARW) Training requirements: Module 0, “Orientation”Module 1, “Basic Radiation Principles”Module 2, “Safety and Radiation”Module 3, “UGA Site Specific Procedures”
