Dynamics of Change • It takes 1 ½ years minimum to work through five stages • The results of not dealing with change within 2 years: • Burnout and will quit job • Become difficult • Become emotionally or physically ill • Change is normal and necessary • You must worry about those who get stuck in a stage
Dealing With Change • Recognize that what is happening is normal • Employees will not move through stages quicker than managers • All low morale is an anger problem • All change produces fear • During times of change all perceptions are distorted – therefore increase information flow • “Tell the truth and you don’t have to have as nearly as good a memory” -- Mark Twain
Build A Support System • Keep as many things familiar as possible • People need stability when going through change • Grieving is normal and necessary • Build a new support system of those who will help
Coping With the Stress of Change • Take care of yourself – physically and emotionally • Be aware of the warning signals • A Body Part • Breathing • Eating Pace • Sleeping Pattern • You must have some time to be a child again • You must take time to play!
