  1. The Battle of Cold Harbor The battle’s location was Hanover Country. It took place May 31 – June 12, 1864 The battle started when Sheridan's cavalry seized the vital crossroads of Cold Harbor. Sheridan’s troops were out numbered when confederate reinforcements arrived from Richmond. When both armies were on the field, they formed a 7 mile front.

  2. Both armies fought on that 7 mile front until July 12, when grant marched his army to the south side of the James River. • Their loss in this engagement was reported at 13,153. • Of whom, 1,705 were killed and 2,406 were missing. • After the battle, Sheridan destroyed the railways in Lee’s rear, making Washington more secure. • The confederates won the battle of Cold Harbor. sources: www.nps.gov www.sonofthesouth.net
