Its construct and content differ depending on factorssuchastheindustryverticalandoperatingmodel.Itisalso a differentapproachwithinprocessesthatwere alreadyoutsourcedoroffshored(includingcaptivecentres)comparedtoonshoreandin-houseprocesses. Mostorganisationsareonlystartingtosetup aCoEafteraproofofconcept has beensuccessfullycompleted. EstablishmentoftheCoEshouldbedrivenbythepaceatwhichtheorganisationwantstoexpanditsRPAdelivery capacity and increase the deliveryvelocity. Organisationsaretendingtooptfora centralisedCoEstructureintheinitialphaseoftheirjourney,beforemovingto adecentralisedstructureinthemediumtolongterm. IfsetupcorrectlytheCoEprovidesagreatincubatorforthedevelopmentofRPAskillsfortheenterprise. TheCoEforRPAshouldbeupgradedtoincludemachinelearning,cognitivecomputingandartificialintelligenceas the organisation’s journeyprogresses. Before marketing the idea of RPA to the broader organisation the CoE should have demand management capabilities,aseveryonetendstowanttogetinfirst.BusinessunitscangetverycreativewithRPAanddemandwill pick upquickly. TheCoEshouldlayoutguidelinesfortheprioritisationofprocessesforautomation.This shouldincludebusiness case tracking, RPA software selection, license allocation, hardware asset allocation, coding standards, training and resource (talent)management. ItisimportantfortheCoEtohaveanearlyengagementwithcolleagueswithinriskmanagement,security,andother controlgroups.Thisshouldincludeauditors(bothinternalandexternal). Allprocessesshouldbepreparedwiththeacceptancethatatsomepointa reversetransitiontohumaninteraction– orabetterbrandofRPAsoftware–mayberequired.
