  8. Second Step Success One example of the success of Second Step that a teacher shared was with a boy who had considerable problems sharing during centers and would have extreme tantrums. He would tantrum during transitions, when other students would try to help him clean up, or when another student would pick up a block or toy that was on the carpet near him. With patience, some prompting, and Second Step, they taught him to name his feelings and practice belly breathing . Over time, the tantrums declined in frequency and duration. He soon became able to, with an occasional reminder, to breathe. He would even tell the teacher “I am breathing.”

  9. Second Step Success One more story to share before we move forward. On a site visit one day, I was asking the teacher if she used Second Step and if so did she feel it made a difference for her this year. Her response was YES! She went on to explain that as the lessons proceeded, she noticed that the students began to develop and empathetic behaviors toward each other had improved immensely. She ended our conversation saying she very much believes that it was effective in helping her children grow.

  10. Formsand Tools All Forms are Available on-line • Weekly Checklist- will be completed by the teacher as modules are implemented in the classroom. Once the Unit is completed the checklist will be submitted to the Program Manager for triad review and Staff Development and or child/family additional interventions needed. • Express Notes will be written in Child Plus for each weekly module implemented with children in attendance.
